Final Report-Colour Forecasting Report

After analaying the past collection of Christian Dior, it's the time to forecast the colour tone for the fall winter collection 2010! From the information of the website, it dedicates that the colour tone of fall winter 2010 is cold tone and the chorma is partial to a higher level. So I think the prevailing colour of fall winter 2010 may not be bright and deep colour may be mainly used.

According to what I have learned from the past collection of John Galliano, he seldom focuses on a specific colour (except the 2006 Spring Couture with the theme of revolution). Also, beacause of the style of exaggeration, he always use bright red, yellow and green as a contrast of the whole collection. Those colour nearly appear in all of his latest collection.

Moreover, when compared with the earlier collection John Galliano, the collection of 2009 is much plainer, most of it are focus on the details and cutting of the pieces.
For both the collection of Couture and RTW, black and white are always the must-have element, so achromatic colour must not lack in the collection of fall winter 2010, but the prevailing colour tone of it will be deep,so I think grey will be more cohesive to the trend.

In Fall 2009 Couture, purple is the outstanding colour for this collection, and it bring about a trend all over the world. In 2010, I balieve that John Galliano may choose scarlet as the main colour of the collection. But this time, the value of it may tends to be higher because of the prevailing trend.

Just like what I have said before, I believe John Galliano would not just emphasis on a specific colour. In order to match with his exaggeraion and also contrast of colour. Some brightness colour must be added in the collection, like purple and yellow. But as the focus of the collection will still on scarlet, some detail decoration will still be added in the pieces in the colour of yellow and purple!

In conclusion, the idea and theme of John Galliano's collection is unpredicable, usage of colour must be cohesive to his ideal theme. But I think ths usage of the colour may tends to a higher level chorma bacause of the prevailing trend. Also, scarlet may be the focus of the whole collection ,together with purple and yellow as a contrast of the collection since this 3 colours are split complementary colour! I believe that the fall winter 2010 of Christian Dior may bring about a upsurge in the world again.

Christian Dior's Fall '09 Ready-to-Wear

Above figure shows the complete collection of Dior's F2009RTW. This collection's idea was come from 18th-century Persian miniatures (波斯的的縮影),and extract their colour and pattern. Because of it, this collection is quite rich in colour, but it can still display this winter's hot colour is purple and together with black and silver.

Purple is the main theme of the collection. Not only using it as the chief of the clothes, purple also infiltrate with different colour sepecially black. Purple is a warm colour and so it must be a suitable colour for 2009 winter

Galliano infused his luxurious collection with scenes from 18th-century Persian miniatures, so this collection is rich in colour. Red, yellow and violet are split complementary, using this 3 colours in one collection may still make it cohesive. Also, red and yellow is cool colour and so it can represent the feeling of autumn.

Colour forcasting

From stylesigth.com, it provides the information of colour premiere of fall winter 2010. There is a number of pages forecasting the colour premiere, but I think some of them may not be used by John Galliano. So I choose some of them that I think it will be used as the main colour of 2010 collection.
In winter 2009, purple was the major colour of Christian Dior, Marc by Marc Jacob. So I believe that purple is possible to be used in fall 2010. But the value of purple is different from the one of 2009 as its chorma is higher.

From the above analaysis of me, i find that John Galliano always like to use the colour of red, no matter use it as the main colour, or use it as the contrast. So I think this colour tone is possible to be the main colour of 2010 collection.

2009 Spring Couture

The theme of this collection is "Tribal Chic"(民族的別緻款式). When you first heard about this theme, most of us should expect to see different kind of tribal prints. John Galliano do exactly the opposite.and most of the collection are plain in colour.

Yellow, Red and blue are the major of this collection. They are triad colour as they are the primary colours. Why the collection is still cohesive? It's baecuse the intensity of this 3 three colours are similiar, which means it has a good balance of colour.

In order to saturate the colour tone of the collection, John Galliano turns these 3 colours to lower value. So the last part of this collection is more ceremonious and it can also show the feeling of spring.

From the above analaysis, I find that this collection is in mono-chromatic. John Galliano uses a number of hues (red, blue and yellow), but also uses diffenert intensity to express different felling.

Spring 2008 Ready-to-wear

When compare with the other RTW collection of John Galliano, this collection is obviouly pragmatic and it's completely different from his style of exaggeration. It seems that it's a kind of commerical duty for him.

Black and white is somehow the must have colour in Christian Dior's RTW. Other than that, John Galliano made this collection to extremly low value. Although there is several hues (green, violet, yellow and blue), as the value is similiar (low), the collection is still harmanic.
For this collection, I think the colour tone is based on the principle of familiarity. Also, as it's at a lower value and it suits the feeling of spring. So, this collection seem more pleasing and reality accepted.

As the majority of this collection are at low value, John Galliano adds a few pieces of red. these pieces are the contrast of colour, and makes it outstanding from the whole collection.

2008 Spring Couture

I think this is one of the most exaggrated collections of John Galliano. This collection featured a lot of details, especially the lamp-shaped skirt and the saucer hats (actually, I think its shape like a UFO). Besides, the decoration of the dress, sparkle and paillettes, make the collection more glamorurs.

This collection is quite rich in colour. Nearly all colour in the colour wheel had been used. But the most eye catching one should be green, purple and orange which is in triad colour. Overall, most of it have similar value as they are tend to high value. So the collection is still cohesive even it contains a wide range of colourm Part of it, especially yellow and green, are outstanding from the whole collection as they are bright.

The Color Trends for Autumn/Winter 2009/2010 Season

--Seizing on color as a power source to jolt colorful tensions.
--Maintaining equal pressure on liveliness and neutrality and encouraging luminosity.
--Heightening intensity, and circulating energy in a positive, rippling or alternating current

CHIC_This trend is dominated by solid and cold tones. Midnight blues and earth tones as well as deep pink are opposing and in that way creating a world of playful patterns.

CLASSIC_characterized by diluted color effects. Clean and earthy colors play a big role in this section. Brown and green tones mixed together create a hint of mystery in combination with gray and foggy shades
CAUSAL_Juicy orange tones, drunken scarlets and neutral nuances combine in a dangerous relation. The way how a dynamic brilliance and shining is created seems like a magic formula. Pavement grays brought together with dazzling lights are a contrast to passionate and theatrical tones.
